Students develop their critical thinking skills, leadership ability, and excellence in clinical practice. They eventually move on to positions where they shape and influence the future of healthcare both nationally and internationally. Today’s School of Nursing students are tomorrow’s leaders in the nursing profession. |

| Jeanne Martin
DNP student Jeanne Martin has been named Nurse Practitioner of the Year New York State. A representative from NPALI states, "The NPALI is thrilled to announce that The Nurse Practitioner Association New York State has named our own Jeanne Martin as The Nurse Practitioner of the Year 2015. The award was presented to Jeanne at the annual meeting and awards ceremony of The NPA in Niagara Falls, NY on Saturday October 3, 2015. Jeanne was instrumental in the passage of the Nurse Practitioner Modernization act which removed the requirement for mandatory written collaboration and has served as president of the NPALI and The NPA among numerous other elected and appointed positions." |
Barbara Mills
DNP '09 alum Barbara M. Mills has been named the School of Nursing 2015 Distinguished Alumnus award recipient. This award is an acknowledgement of Dr. Mills’ excellence. Dr. Mills has made and continues to make significant contributions to the profession of Nursing through outstanding practice, research and/or community involvement. She has transformed the Rapid Response program at Stony Brook University Hospital to one that is imitated throughout the nation. Dr. Mills was honored on April 1, 2016 at the Hamlet Golf & Country Club during an all-day symposium where she will also offer the keynote address. Further details will be forthcoming. |
Jaiby Augustine
New DNP alum, Jaiby Augustine was awarded 1st Place at the 27th Eastern Nursing Research Society (ENRS) Annual Scientific Sessions for his poster presentation, Promoting Advance Care Planning: A Quality Improvement Study The conference was held in Washington, DC on April 15 - 17, 2015. ENRS is comprised of RNs and others interested in promoting nursing research.
