Dean's Welcome

Dean Annette Wysocki

Welcome to the School of Nursing at Stony Brook University! We are delighted that you are visiting our website to learn more about our outstanding undergraduate and nationally ranked graduate educational programs and learn more about our reputation for clinical excellence and our expanding programs of research.

Nursing is a profession that serves a vital role in promoting and restoring the health of individuals, families and communities. Nurses are at the front very line of the health care delivery system across all settings in the United States and represent the single largest number of health care providers in the Nation.

Today the magnitude and scope of practice has expanded well beyond prior decades. Nurses can be found delivering health care independently and as members of the health care team, conducting research, driving policy, serving as legislators, advocating for patients, functioning as administrators and changing communities around the world in multiple settings that include hospitals, clinics, private offices, individual homes, schools, libraries, health departments, government agencies, industrial facilities and increasingly in retirement, assisted living and long-term care settings. Nurses deliver evidence-based care that is derived from the most contemporary scientific knowledge generated by research studies across all disciplines including biology, psychology, sociology, public health, physiology, cell and molecular biology, engineering, environmental and computer sciences. And just as importantly, nursing is a profession that is firmly anchored on an ethical foundation for the benefit of all mankind.

We are delighted that you are exploring what Stony Brook School of Nursing can offer you as a student on a campus that is a member of the prestigious Association of American Universities (AAU), a member of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN), accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) and by the Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education (ACME) as you pursue your dreams. Our undergraduate NCLEX pass rate exceeds 93%, and our online master’s program is currently ranked #7 and our Midwifery program #27 by US News and World Report.
