Kristan Probeck

Stony Brook University School of Nursing (SON) double alumna Kristan Probeck, MS, RN, BC-CV, ANP-C, was recently named Nurse Practitioner (NP) of the Year by the Nurse Practitioner Association of Long Island (NPALI)

A nurse practitioner in Stony Brook Surgery's Division of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery, Probeck earned her bachelor's degree in nursing and her adult nurse practitioner master's degree from the SON in 2003 and 2010, respectively.

“I am deeply honored to receive this award and grateful to the committee and the NPALI,” said Probeck. “This award inspires me to continue striving for excellence and making a positive impact in the nurse practitioner field. I share this honor with my colleagues, mentors, and patients who inspire me every day. I am motivated by this award to continue advocating for Nurse Practitioners and patients and continuing to improve healthcare outcomes.”

There are seven Nurse Practitioner Association regions across the state of New York. Probeck is the NP of the Year for Region 7, which comprises approximately 800 members across Long Island.

Probeck joined Stony Brook Surgery’s vascular division in 2013 as a venous thromboembolism (VTE) nurse practitioner. She began her career as a certified nursing assistant before obtaining her registered nurse credentials in 2003.

An expert in her field, Probeck helped develop the Pulmonary Embolism Response Team at Stony Brook. She's spoken about VTE standards and research at national conferences, presented award-winning posters at vascular conferences, and authored peer-reviewed journal articles.

Probeck will be honored in person at an event in September.
