Two Stony Brook School of Nursing faculty members, Sanjib Dey, FNP-C, RN, and Beatriz Makhoulian, MSN, RN, FNP-C, gave presentations that spotlighted innovative projects aimed at improving patient care and advancing quality improvement practices at the recent Center for Healthy Aging QI Symposium.
Dey shared insights from his project, Improving Advance Care Planning in Primary Care Settings, which addresses the importance of enhancing advance care discussions in primary care environments. Presenting in front of an expert panel, Dey noted that the feedback was “integral,” providing a fresh perspective on implementing quality improvement strategies.
He expressed his enthusiasm for incorporating new ideas gained during the symposium, remarking, “The insights gained during this symposium were transformative.” Prof. Dey looks forward to participating in future events and advancing impactful healthcare initiatives.
Makhoulian presented her work, Improving Mental Health Outcomes through Primary Care: A Program Evaluation of a Collaborative Depression Clinic. In the interactive workshop, Makhoulian valued the opportunity to engage with fellow healthcare providers dedicated to advancing geriatric care.
She described the experience as “humbling” and expressed her appreciation for the expert panel’s feedback, which she found invaluable in refining her DNP project. “This experience has reinforced my commitment to improving care for the aging population,” she stated, eagerly anticipating the implementation of these valuable insights.
