Dr. Navarra is Associate Professor, Associate Dean, Nursing Research and Innovation at Stony Brook University. She also holds the position of Chair, Department of Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing Studies. Prior to joining the faculty of Stony Brook University, she held the rank of Associate Professor with tenure at NYU Rory Meyers College of Nursing. 

She was a trailblazer in the early 1990’s as one of the first advanced practice pediatric nurses leading care initiatives for youth living with HIV/AIDS. This pioneering work became the impetus for her major contributions to the HIV behavioral sciences and advancement of health equity for youth living with HIV. She demonstrated the need for expanded care models and developed and tested a novel and scalable cognitive behavioral technology-enabled intervention (Adherence Connection for Counseling, Education, and Support (ACCESS - K23NR015970; R01NR019535).  

Dr. Navarra is a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing, recipient of the 2021 ENRS/Nursing Research Authorship Award and gained recognition as Distinguished Alumni for Nursing Research at Columbia University School of Nursing. Most notable, Dr. Navarra’s partnerships with the HIV and healthcare communities entail active collaboration with community health workers as integral members of her research and scholarship.
