We are thrilled to congratulate Dr. Rewa Thompson, clinical associate professor at Stony Brook University’s School of Nursing, on receiving the prestigious 2024 Nassau Suffolk Council Nurse of Excellence in Academics Award, the CELT David L. Ferguson Award for Inclusive Teaching, and, most recently, the President’s Award for Nurturing a Welcoming, Inclusive Campus Culture at this year's Stony Awards.
A nurse practitioner, educator, and advocate for women’s health and reproductive rights, Dr. Thompson is a trailblazer in promoting health equity and addressing bias in nursing education. As co-chair of the IDEAS Committee, she champions inclusivity and equity, inspiring the next generation of nursing professionals.
Her dedication to clinical excellence, inclusive pedagogy, and advancing the nursing field is a testament to her transformative impact. As a devoted nurse educator and passionate women's health expert who challenges the status quo, she has made significant contributions to the nursing profession. Her accomplishments as a leader and innovator, mentor and role model, and staunch advocate for healthcare equity go beyond her academic and clinical roles.
In addition to co-chairing the school’s diversity committee, she has implemented numerous programs that celebrate diversity and cultivate a sense of belonging. Through her vision, these initiatives have fostered understanding and empowerment among nursing faculty, students, and community members.
