My seminal and continuing contributions foster access to comprehensive, culturally-competent healthcare for women, infants and children. Through extensive work with MCN: The American Journal of Maternal-Child Nursing, the National Association of Neonatal Nurses (NANN), and the Jonas Center for Nursing Excellence, I am recognized as a transformational leader who 1) develops, synthesizes, selects, and disseminates resources to a national audience of maternal, infant and child healthcare providers to promote evidence-based practice; and 2) plays a pivotal role in improving healthcare access through national initiatives to promote networking and leadership success of our advanced practice and doctorally prepared nursing workforce. The impact of my contributions is advanced through federal grantsmanship (as PI/PD) with the Health Resources & Services Administration (HRSA) and other funding agencies, which has resulted in over 2.3 million dollars in scholarship and program funding to support student scholarships and sustain novel programs to develop a diverse primary care nursing workforce. My funding primarily supports disadvantaged nurses who would otherwise not have had advanced practice education opportunity, and who enthusiastically deliver primary care to medically underserved maternal-child populations upon graduation. Collectively, my contributions directly impact maternal-child health equity by improving representation of providers who are well-informed and conversant in challenges facing these vulnerable populations. These contributions, combined with my diligent efforts to advance innovation and technology capacity in healthcare providers, are helping to meet Healthy People 2020 goals of improving the health and well-being of women, infants, children, and families, and improving their access to comprehensive, quality healthcare services.
