School of Nursing Signs Memorandum of Understanding With the Korean Armed Forces Nursing Academy

On July 23, 2015, Brigadier General Kyung-Hye Choi, Major Yoomi Jung and Lieutenant Colonel Jungsoon Na met with Dr. Lee Anne Xippolitos, Dr. Mark Sedler, Dr. Marie Marino and Professor Debra Grimm to develop a Memorandum of Understanding between the Korea Armed Forces Nursing Academy (KAFNA) and Stony Brook University School of Nursing (SBUSB). This agreement was developed to promote the development of curriculum that would reinforce cultural enrichment, promote scientific progress and formalize the friendship between both Schools of Nursing.  Adding global education opportunities to the curriculum ensures that students from these programs have an opportunity toexpand their nursing knowledge and are granted access to clinical environments in the hosting country. Additionally, the high-quality of this program allows for collaborative research activities, clinical training and exchange professor programs for faculty. These overseas partnerships are important to the universal profession of Nursing by promoting international student and faculty achievement in global competence.

It is our School’s distinct honor to have this Memorandum in place and we look forward to working and learning from our KAFNA Colleagues and Cadets.
